COURSE DESCRIPTION
The content of the book of Isaiah is considered with additional emphasis given to historical background and messianic messages, together with specific theological concepts and teachings that are pertinent to modern times.

LEARNING RESULTS
Upon successful completion of this course the student will:

• Gain a basic knowledge of the book of Isaiah
• Appreciate Isaiah from a distinctly Christian perspective (Matt. 5:17)
• Gain an understanding of the facts and their significance for the whole interpretation of the character of God and of His working in history (theology)
• Interpret and apply the teachings of Isaiah for life and faith
• Prepare to such an extent that the student will be prepared to teach the book of Isaiah in his or her church


REQUIRED TEXTS AND MATERIALS
Webb, Barry G. The Message of Isaiah: On Eagles’
Wings. The Bible Speaks Today. Downers Grove: InterVarsity, 1996.
A good study Bible, preferably in a modern translation. The updated New American Standard Version (NAU) or the New International Version (NIV) are particularly recommended. The King James is welcome for individuals who are comfortable with its style. Unless otherwise noted, all of the Bible quotations contained in this course will be from the updated New American Standard Bible, © 1995 by The Lockman Foundation (NAU).

INTEGRATION OF FAITH AND LEARNING
The integration of faith and learning in this course comes from gaining knowledge and understanding of God's Word in the prophecy of Isaiah, combined with research, scholarship, prayer, and reflection upon the meaning of the texts for everyday life and faith in the church. Further integration occurs when the instructor evaluates and interacts with the student's responses in each assignment.
