COURSE DESCRIPTION
A study in substantive criminal law and how the courts apply constitutional and statutory principles in the appellate process. An examination of the historical foundations of the substantive law, the legal elements of culpability, and the limitations of that law in its application to the adjudicatory process.
LEARNING RESULTS
1. Students will examine key cases that have influenced the substantive criminal law. 2. Students will understand the legal elements of a crime and how they apply to criminal law. 3. Students will use legal reasoning in the analysis of court decisions. 4. Students will learn how to brief criminal cases and examine the opinions of the courts. 5.
