ENG217E Bible as Literature (3 credits) 9518

Untitled Document COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course will study the use of literary tools (such as narrative, poetry, proverbs, rhetoric, dialogue and allusion) in the Bible. The study of these literary qualities, coupled with a study of representative passages in the biblical text, will give students a richer understanding of God's Word. Students will be asked to consider carefully the assumptions they use when studying the Bible from a literary point of view. Prerequisites: Course assignments will assume that students are competent, upper-level college writers.

LEARNING RESULTS
This course will require students to write five "reviews" and three research projects. The reviews are opportunities for students to demonstrate in an essay form their understanding of the reading assignments. Because no tests are given in this course, these reviews will evaluate the student's progress in grasping the essential content of the course. The research projects will demonstrate that students are able to independently apply the course content to a range of topics.
