ENG314E Article Writing II (2 credits) 9633

COURSE DESCRIPTION
A course concentrating on finding, evaluating, researching, and writing the various kinds of nonfiction articles. Self-editing, interviewing techniques, developing vocabulary skills are emphasized as students write humor, how-to, inspirational, investigative, opinion, and other types of articles. Building on the foundational skills learned in ENG313E, students will learn the advanced specialty areas of article writing. The course is taken through a partnership between the Christian Writers Guild (CWG) and TUFWO. This course utilizes the second section of the CWG Apprentice level course (lessons 13-24) plus a supplemental academic track chapter, readings and research/critical thinking papers. The course is adapted to fit a semester but guest students can request a six-month extension if needed.
Students are encouraged to submit their articles for publication. Prerequisite: ENG313E Article Writing I or equivalent LEARNING RESULTS
The learner will be able to: • Recognize different types of articles.
• Understand marketing and reading audiences.
• Be a competent self-editor.

Through a collaborative agreement between CWG and TUFWO, Section II of the “What’s Your Story?” writing course offered by CWG can be taken for academic credit through Taylor. The integration of ethical writing practices with an authentic Christian worldview in a multitude of venues is encouraged in this course. Emphasis is placed on developing excellent professional writing and strong critical thinking skills, as well as working with integrity and high ethical standards.

The student works through the second section of the CWG “What’s Your Story?” course by submitting assignments given at the conclusion of each chapter and completing the additional academic track readings and revisions These assignments are graded by CWG mentor-professors, all experienced writers and teachers. At the conclusion of the course, your grade will be forwarded to Taylor University by CWG for confirmation and any additional necessary work evaluation. A final grade will be entered on an official Taylor University transcript. Registration is handled by TUFWO. Once you register, TUFWO will contact Christian Writers Guild and your course materials and instructor/mentor information will be sent to you by CWG.
