LEARNING EVALUATION
MUS122E is designed to provide the music student with a more advanced study of the musical skills, construction, and vocabulary introduced in MUS121E. Successfully completing MUS122E will enable the student to enjoy a deeper appreciation of practical skills and expressions of music making and musical analysis. Taken in sequence after MUS121E, the content of these two courses is designed to model the content and information of “Music Theory” (MUS121E) as taught on-campus at Taylor University, or comparable courses taught at other institutions. Many times such courses include crucial components of ear training, Keyboard, and sight singing “lab” experiences. While such classroom practices are not conducive to distance-learning methods, certain supplementary assignments in this syllabus have been provided in an effort to emulate the manner of such experiences. For this reason, the student of this course is required to complete all assignments and readings, not only for successful completion of the course, but also for mastery of life-style musicianship applications. Remember, this is not a beginner’s course, and therefore is not recommended for students who have no prior experience in music reading or writing. Please note the prerequisite: a student desiring to take MUS122E should successfully complete the topics of MUS121E or equivalent—non-mastery of such preliminary skills could jeopardize the student’s ability to complete MUS122E.
