COURSE DESCRIPTION
A course designed to develop greater understanding and appreciation of music and the various historical periods. An introduction to the art of music and its materials. Considerable attention is given to listening to recordings and studying the lives of leading composers. NOTE: Attendance at two concerts required.

LEARNING RESULTS
Students who pass MUS 149E can...
• state the main elements of music and correctly identify associated terms;
• identify common musical instruments and forms of music;
• list each musical era and its prominent musicians, significant musical developments and forms, and characteristic compositions
