YMI200E Ministry to Youth (3 credits) 9270

COURSE DESCRIPTION
An introduction to the biblical basis for focused ministry to teenagers both ecumenically and evangelically including biblical understanding, adolescent development, program implementation, parental involvement, staff training and development, and effective budgeting.
LEARNING RESULTS
The learner will be able to:
• Articulate youth ministry in theological terms using Scripture to support his/her suppositions.
• Identify the various developmental stages common to teenagers and be able to address each through creative ministry.
• Create and implement programming designed to assist the local church in assisting the family in raising wholesome, godly teenagers.
• Recruit, train, and utilize a volunteer staff to assist in fulfilling the ministry to youth.
• Identify and handle difficult situations that often occur in youth ministry.
• Gain an understanding of generational classifications and how this understanding will assist in effective ministry to adolescents.

INTEGRATION OF FAITH AND LEARNING
The integration of faith and learning in this course occurs through the required textbook reading and interactions with the texts as well as through instructor comments when grading and reviewing assignments. Experiences integrated throughout the course will cause students to apply the knowledge

learned to real world settings. The interviews with practicing youth pastors will help students understand and learn from others as they work out issues using practical wisdom and skills in dramatic real life situations. Students will be able to articulate their own philosophy of youth ministry from a practical and biblical perspective.

LEARNING DOCUMENTATION
To determine if the course learning results have been attained, students document their learning by submitting the following items:
• Submit specific papers after reading required textbooks.
• Submit biblical basis for youth ministry and one's personal philosophy of youth ministry.
• Verification of participation in an actual youth group along with critique paper.
• Summary of scenarios presented to youth pastors as well as your personal response to each situation.
• Submit research paper dealing with your generational study.
• Participation in online discussion chats and postings.

Evaluation is on a point system:
