REL375E Cross-Cultural Evangelism (3 credits) 9375
COURSE DESCRIPTION
A study of the principles of cross-cultural communication and their application to the task of communicating the biblical gospel in a relevant way to people of other cultures and religions.
LEARNING RESULTS
Upon completion of this course the student will:
• demonstrate a thorough acquaintance with the basic principles of cross-cultural communication;
• distinguish evangelism which is validly contextualized in content and style from that which is not;
• explain selected Biblical concepts and passages in way that show their importance for evangelism in target cultures.
• describe personal experiences during the course which have provided motivation for further study of and involvement in cross-cultural evangelism.

This course not only explores the principles of cross-cultural communication, but it also explores various biblical passages that relate, and support, the concept and practice of evangelism in other cultures.

Field Study: You will be required to interview three missionaries whose primary work is cross-cultural evangelism. You also will be encouraged to observe (or participate in) cross-cultural evangelism in at least two different settings. If this is not possible, the instructor may permit additional missionary interviews to be substituted.
LEARNING EVALUATION
Evaluation for this course is based on the following point system: Each lesson is worth 10 points. There are 13 lessons and a field study for a total of 130 points.
