REL407E Old Testament Theology (3 credits) 9509

Untitled Document
COURSE DESCRIPTION
A study of major theological concepts of the Old Testament. Emphasis upon gaining an understanding of the facts of the Old Testament and their significance for the whole interpretation of the character of God and His working in history in and through Israel and the Messiah.

LEARNING RESULTS
The Old Testament comprises approximately two-thirds of the Bible, so its importance for the Christian faith is obvious. It presents a picture of God who creates, elects, sustains, and challenges a people to relate to him in a personal and responsible manner. Who God is and how He accomplishes His purposes are the subjects of Old Testament theology. Since the Bible of Jesus was the Old Testament, a full and correct understanding of the New Testament is only possible through a grasp of God and His revelation in the Old Testament. As a result of the successful completion of this course, the student should be able to:
A. Gain a basic knowledge of Old Testament theology, the facts and their significance for the whole interpretation of the character of God and of His working in history.
B. Interpret and apply the biblical truths of Old Testament theology for life and faith.
C. Increase in appreciation for the work of the Trinity in the Old Testament.
D. Gain a foundational understanding of prophecy in the Old Testament, especially as it relates to the Messiah.
E. Construct a foundation framework for theology through study of God's work in creation, the prophets, and the nation of Israel.
F. Show the ability to do research on related topics by completing a major paper.
