Equipment Requirements

Students taking courses through the Center for Lifelong Learning need an understanding of operating system software and computer hardware and peripherals in order to successfully utilize available resources for research and study. In addition to computer literacy, certain equipment is required for online learning:

Minimum PC requirements

  • Pentium® 100mhz processor with at least 16 MB RAM running Microsoft® Windows® 95, 98 or NT
  • Color monitor capable of 800 X 600 resolution and at least 256 colors
  • 50 MB of free hard drive space
  • CD-ROM 4X or faster
  • Sound card and speakers
  • Microsoft Word® — Office® 97 or later
  • Modem: at least 28.8k bps (56k bps recommended)
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer® 4.0 or Netscape® Navigator® 4.0 or higher
  • An Internet connection for access to the World Wide Web and e-mail
  • AOL® Users: AOL client software, version 5.0 or later
  • Minimum Mac requirements

  • Apple Macintosh Power PC, G3, G4 or I-Mac® computer
  • 16 MB of physical RAM or higher
  • Color monitor capable of 800 X 600 resolution and at least 256 colors
  • 50 MB of free hard drive space
  • CD-ROM 4X or faster
  • 28.8k bps or faster modem Internet connection
  • Sound system and speakers
  • Microsoft Word for the Macintosh
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or Netscape Navigator 4.0 or higher
  • AOL Users: AOL client software, version 5.0 or later
